Our Story

New ways to celebrate Scottish wool.

Fleeced began on a hillside on the eastern side of the Mull of Kintyre, sheltered from the Atlantic by the spine of the peninsula. For generations, Scotland's hill farmers have raised hardy mountain breeds — Scottish Blackface above all — across Argyll's wild peninsulas. Yet the wool from these animals is too often burned or buried, fetching pennies at market, if anything at all.

The smallest flocks have it hardest. A few dozen ewes is too little for the commercial wool board to bother with; the haulage alone costs more than the clip is worth. Year after year, beautiful fleece is thrown away.

We started Fleeced to change that — paying fair prices to neighbouring crofters and small flock-holders for the wool no one else wants, and turning it into objects worth keeping.

What we make:

  • Bespoke bags for distilleries — bottle sleeves, totes and presentation pieces made for Scotland's whisky distillers.
  • Outdoor & travel accessories — wool-lined mats, pouches and carry pieces made for the road, the hill and the long journey home.
  • A trade range for farm shops and considered retailers stocking natural, well-made things.
  • Small-batch yarn from our own flock — a quieter line, released once a year.

Every piece is designed and made in Scotland — fully traceable back to the croft and the season it came from. Nothing is dyed that doesn't need to be. Nothing is wasted.
